Strategy 2 — Good Soil Strategy

HEAR

Hear & Obey God's Word

"Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." — Romans 10:17 · NKJV
"Being heard is so close to being loved that they are indistinguishable." David Augsburger

Active, Sustained Reception

Picture dry ground when rain falls. The soil does not argue with the rain — it simply receives, slowly and completely, until what was dust becomes life-bearing. This is what hearing God's Word looks like. It is not passive. It is the active, sustained opening of yourself to what God is saying — until what He says takes root.

The Word Itself Plants Faith

Much of what passes for Bible teaching does not give people the chance to hear God's Word directly — the teacher's voice fills the room, Scripture becomes a proof text, and the listener leaves with someone else's ideas ringing in their ears, not the living Word itself. But faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God — not by hearing opinions or commentary. The Word itself, heard directly, is what plants faith. Without faith it is impossible to please God.

Obedience Is Hearing Completed

"Why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do the things which I say?" — Luke 6:46 · NKJV
"If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word, and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him." — John 14:23 · NKJV

Hearing that does not lead to obedience is not really hearing at all. You cannot obey what you have not received. And what you have truly received, you will obey.

What You Will Discover

The Shema begins with a command, not a promise: "Hear, O Israel." In this training, you will discover what that kind of hearing requires — and what it produces. You will practice receiving God's Word the way dry ground receives rain: not arguing, not filtering, not immediately interpreting — but opening and absorbing, until what was heard takes root. You will also discover what it looks and feels like to create that space for others. The discipline is simple and harder than it sounds: stop filling the room with your own voice, and let God's Word fill it instead. You'll practice this discipline directly in our STRATEGIES 1 Training.

The soil that hears and obeys is the soil that bears fruit — fruit of attachment to the Vine.
